ORLOVSKIY PARTIZAN

The 'Orlovskiy Partizan' apple variety is a winter triploid variety created by crossing the variety 'Orlik' and form 13-6-106. Trees of this variety are medium-sized, fast-growing, with rounded and sufficiently dense crowns; their branches depart from the trunk at a right angle and have drooping tips. The bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and brown. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, enduring temperatures up to -40°С, and early fruiting—fruiting begins in the 3rd or 4th year after planting.

Fruits of Orlovskiy Partizan are large, uniform, conical in shape with a slightly sloping base. Their mass reaches about 199 grams. The skin is smooth and glossy, the main color is greenish with a covering part in the form of a blurred red blush and streaks of beet color. The flesh is dense, greenish, juicy, with an acid-sweet taste and a weak aroma. Taste qualities are rated at 4.4 points. The chemical composition is characterized by a sugar content of about 11.77%, titratable acids of 0.51%, and ascorbic acid of 4.1 mg per 100 grams. Fruits ripen in mid-September and can be stored until the end of January, which makes the variety in demand for winter consumption.

Orlovskiy Partizan is distinguished by high yield and regular fruiting. The average yield from one tree is about 24-25 kg, which corresponds to 24 tons per hectare at a planting density of 5×2 m. The variety is resistant to scab and also shows resistance to such diseases as rust, powdery mildew, and spot. Among pests, apple trees may be attacked by spider mites, aphids, apple blossom weevils, apple leafhoppers, and codling moths. Due to the combination of marketable fruits, excellent taste qualities, winter hardiness, and disease resistance, Orlovskiy Partizan is a promising variety for cultivation in the Central Black Earth region.
