Description
Astilbe 'Gloria Purpurea' – a medium to early-flowering ornamental herbaceous plant with lush rhombic inflorescences, reaching up to 20 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter. The flowers are colored in purplish-pink tones from fuchsia to lilac, creating a bright accent in garden shade or partial shade.
The mature plant has a compact form: shrub height is 45–60 cm, width is 45–60 cm, while flower stems can reach 80–90 cm. The foliage is dark green and dense, giving the bush a lush appearance. The plant prefers loose, fertile soil with good moisture retention; it cannot tolerate waterlogging but requires regular watering during dry periods.
'Gloria Purpurea' is characterized by high frost resistance (up to –40 °C) and does not require winter covering. In the first year after planting, the rhizomes can be insulated with fallen leaves, and thereafter, compost should be added annually to a depth of 5–10 cm to maintain fertility. The plant divides easily and can be transplanted in both spring and autumn, making it easy to care for.
It is ideal for group monoplantings, combinations with hostas, ferns, and other shade-loving perennials. The flowering period is from July to early August, lasting 2–3 weeks. Thanks to its bright color and resistance to diseases and pests, this plant will become a reliable decorative accent in any garden ensemble.
