Description
Amberg winter barley is a mid-ripening, multi-row, two-handled variety characterized by high winter hardiness, comparable to winter wheat varieties Skipter and Snigurka in the Central Black Earth region, as well as to winter barley Zhiguli in the Lower Volga region. The vegetative period for winter sowing ranges from 224 to 257 days, allowing for effective use of the variety in various climatic conditions. The plant is medium or high-growing with a semi-arching bush, pyramidal loose spike of medium density, and long barbed awns with weak-intensity anthocyanin coloring. The grain is large, with a 1000-grain mass ranging from 41 to 48 grams, and protein content reaching 12.0%. The Amberg variety boasts high yield for both spring and winter sowing. The average yield in the Central Black Earth region is 41.3 centners per hectare, and in the Lower Volga region, it is 35.1 centners per hectare; in some regions, such as the Kursk region, yield reached 81.6 centners per hectare with an increase of 6.8 centners per hectare over the standard, while the maximum yield in 2022 was 114.3 centners per hectare. The variety is resistant to lodging, drought, and major diseases such as loose smut and net blotch, ensuring yield stability and quality. Amberg possesses excellent agronomic characteristics: the tall stem is not prone to shattering, and a large number of grains form in the spike, contributing to high productivity. The variety is suitable for sowing in both spring and winter, with a recommended seeding density of 100-130 kg/hectare for spring and 130-170 kg/hectare for winter. Due to its qualities and adaptability, the Amberg variety is a reliable choice for agricultural producers seeking high and stable barley yields.
