The «Dzherelo» (Source) barley variety, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, represents an intensive type of two-row spring barley. A key physiological feature is its optimized development cycle: the period from emergence to heading is 70–80 days, with a total vegetation period of 80–90 days. Such early maturity allows the crop to effectively utilize early spring moisture, avoiding the arid phases of grain filling.

Agronomic Performance and Yield Potential

The morphological characteristics of the plant include medium stature (height of 70–80 cm), ensuring good resistance to lodging. The thousand-seed weight is in the range of 50–52 grams, indicating high grain filling and significant yield potential. The winter hardiness is rated at 9 points, a remarkable indicator for this selection, ensuring crop survival under volatile early-season temperatures.

Phytopathological Resistance

The genetic profile of the «Dzherelo» variety is adapted to counter a wide spectrum of pathogens, which is critical for reducing the pesticide load. The variety demonstrates resistance to the following diseases:

• Helminthosporiosis and brown spot.
• A complex of smut diseases (loose, covered, black, and onion stem smut).
• Mycosphaerella leaf spot and powdery mildew.
