Description
The winter barley variety Buslik is a medium-maturing multi-row type belonging to the pallidum subgroup. The plant is of medium or high stature with a semi-prostrate or prostrate bush, characterized by high resistance to lodging and drought. The ear is pyramidal or cylindrical of medium density, with long serrated awns and no anthocyanin pigmentation at the tips. The glumes of the lower leaves have sparse pubescence, and the waxy coating on them and on the ear is absent or very weak. The average weight of 1000 grains is about 43 g, grain naturalness is 535 g/l, and chaffiness is 11%. The grain kernel is of medium size with an unpubescent ventral groove. The vegetation period varies from 259 to 314 days, which corresponds to a medium-late maturity period. The Buslik variety is recommended for cultivation in the North-West region of Russia, including the Kaliningrad region, and differs with good winter hardiness at the level of the standard Highlight, although it belongs to varieties with weak frost resistance. The variety's yield in field conditions reaches an average of 54.9 c/ha, which is 8.5% higher than the average experience. Protein content in the grain varies from 12.4% to 16.3%, while grain uniformity is 82.4%. The variety shows resistance to major foliar diseases, such as powdery mildew, loose smut, and net blotch, which contributes to a stable and high-quality harvest. Buslik is intended primarily for feed use, which is due to its high technological characteristics and grain quality. Thanks to its resistance to adverse weather conditions and diseases, as well as high yield, the variety is a reliable choice for agrarians seeking to obtain stable and high-quality feed barley. Since 2020, the variety has undergone state testing in the Russian Federation, which confirms its prospects and adaptation to various agro-climatic conditions.
