Description
Chebenyok is a new spring barley variety created using stepwise hybridization followed by targeted individual selection. It was obtained from an F4 hybrid population formed by crossing the varieties Medikum 131/95 and Nutas 123/95. The variety exhibits high adaptive potential and resistance to complex natural and climatic conditions, confirmed by successful trials in various regions, including the Ural and Lower Volga. Chebenyok is distinguished by its mid-early maturity period and resistance to lodging, making it a reliable choice for agricultural production. In terms of yield, the Chebenyok variety surpasses standard varieties such as Nathalie, ensuring an increase of up to 0.23 tons of grain per hectare on average over three years of trials. Maximum yield reaches 38.7 centners per hectare, while average yield in some regions can reach 58.7 centners per hectare. The variety is characterized by a protein content of up to 11.4%, making it attractive for grain and feed use and the brewing industry. Chebenyok is resistant to major barley diseases such as bunt, loose smut, and helminthosporium. It is drought-resistant and has a medium growing season ranging from 69 to 80 days. The thousand-grain weight varies from 43 to 52 grams, indicating good grain quality. The recommended sowing rate is 4.0-5.0 million viable seeds per hectare, ensuring optimal development and high productivity of the crop.
