FINIST

Finist is a medium-early spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) grain-forage variety, characterized by a vegetation period of 70 to 97 days. The plant has a semi-erect bush with intermediate height, pyramidal or cylindrical loose head with medium or strong waxy bloom, and long smooth awned toothed tips. The grain is large, with the mass of 1000 seeds varying from 35 to 55 grams, ensuring high-quality raw material for feed purposes. The variety differs in medium intensity of anthocyanin coloring and medium or strong waxy bloom on leaf sheaths. Finist has high resistance to lodging and drought, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in the Middle Volga region, including Samara region and the Republic of Tatarstan. The average yield of the variety in the region is 41.7 centners per hectare, while in Tatarstan the maximum yield reached 65.8 c/ha. The variety is susceptible to powdery head smut, but under field conditions shows weak infection by powdery mildew, helminthosporium, and medium resistance to dark brown blotch. The recommended sowing rate for barley Finist is 4.5–5.0 million viable seeds per hectare. Protein content in the grain reaches 14.1%, which increases its nutritional value for feed purposes. Due to its agronomic characteristics and resistance to adverse conditions, the Finist variety is promising for cultivation in regions with similar climate and soil conditions.
