Description
FORMULA 1 is a mid-season spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety developed by French breeders SECOBRA Recherches. The vegetation period lasts from 70 to 80 days, allowing for efficient use under various climatic conditions. The plant is characterized by its short stature, intermediate bush type, and anthocyanin coloration of the flag leaf ears. The head is short and cylindrical, while the mass of 1000 grains varies from 44 to 53 grams, indicating the variety's large-grained nature.
The variety exhibits high resistance to major diseases such as loose smut, powdery mildew, and stem rust, significantly reducing the risk of yield losses. However, it is sensitive to helminthosporiosis, net blotch, and root rots, requiring careful agronomic management. FORMULA 1 is drought-resistant, making it suitable for cultivation in regions with limited moisture.
This barley is intended for brewing and feed use, contains up to 11.4% protein, and has a yield potential of up to 109.2 c/ha. The recommended sowing rate is 400–450 seeds per square meter. To achieve high yields, nitrogen fertilizers are applied at rates of 40 to 120 kg/ha d.m., along with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers ranging from 60–90 kg/ha d.m., ensuring optimal plant nutrition and promoting high-quality grain development.
