The «Neptun» barley variety from the Danish breeding company Sejet Planteforaedling I,S is engineered for stable grain production. A key feature of this variety is its balanced morphology: with a stem height of 80–90 cm, the crop exhibits high resistance to lodging, which is critical for mechanized harvesting in high-yield scenarios.

Biological Cycle and Metabolism

A vegetation period of 100–110 days classifies «Neptun» as a mid-ripening variety. Its intensive metabolism allows the plant to efficiently utilize moisture during the first half of summer, completing the cycle before extreme July temperatures. An important quality indicator is the nitrogenous substance content in the dry matter at 12%. This is an optimal level for forage use, providing high energy value without compromising processing efficiency.

Pathogen Resistance

Sejet’s breeding focus was placed on comprehensive defense against fungal infections. The variety possesses genetically determined resistance to stem rust and smut diseases. Integrating these traits into the «Neptun» genotype reduces the pesticide load on the crops, allowing farmers to decrease the number of fungicide applications without the risk of significant yield losses due to rust epiphytotics.
