Description
OSKOLETS is a mid-maturity spring barley variety intended for cultivation in the Central-Black-Earth region of Russia, specifically in the Belgorod and Voronezh regions. The vegetation period of the variety lasts 70-82 days. The plant is characterized by short medium height, semi-upright shoots, and a pyramidal loose ear of medium density. The grain is very large, semi-round in shape, with a weight of 42-52 grams for 1000 grains, which ensures high technological efficiency and attractiveness for the brewing industry.
The OSKOLETS variety is distinguished by high productivity and resistance to lodging at plant heights of 65-73 cm. It has enhanced productive tillering and dense stem density, which promotes synchronous ripening of the crop. Drought and heat resistance is at a medium level, comparable to other standard varieties of the region. Additionally, the variety shows moderate resistance to loose smut, but is susceptible to striped smut and loose smut. Protein content in the grain is 11.2-11.5%, and extractability is 79-81%, which confirms its high value for brewing.
Created by individual selection from a hybrid population obtained from crossing the varieties Svyatich and Beatrice, OSKOLETS is characterized by high responsiveness to the application of fertilizers and fungicides, which allows for effective management of agrotechnical measures. Thanks to its agronomic and technological qualities, the variety occupies a worthy place among the best European spring barley varieties, ensuring stable and high yields in the Central-Black-Earth region.
