Description
Patricius is a spring barley variety for brewing purposes, belonging to the nutans type, characterized by high ecological plasticity and adaptability. It exhibits high drought and heat tolerance, making it especially valuable for cultivation under various climatic conditions. The recommended growing region includes the steppe, forest-steppe, and prairie zones of Ukraine, confirming the variety's universality and resilience to different environmental factors.
Agronomic characteristics of the Patricius variety include a medium-maturing group, plant height of 65-70 cm, and tillering coefficient of 2-2.5. The medium-density ear reaches up to 14 cm in length and contains approximately 26 grains. The 1000-grain weight varies from 44 to 54 grams, and the grain density is 720 g/L. The yield potential reaches 82 centners/ha, with an average yield over test years of 61 centners/ha. Protein content ranges from 9-11%, and extractive substances amount to 78-80%, which is an important indicator for brewing raw materials.
The variety demonstrates high resistance to diseases and stress factors: yellow mosaic virus is rated 10, helminthosporiosis — 8, brown rust and septoria — 9, and scab — 9. Additionally, Patricius shows high resistance to lodging (10 points) and shattering (8 points), contributing to yield preservation and grain quality. The recommended seeding rate is 5.5 million viable seeds per hectare, which is optimal for achieving maximum productivity and raw material quality.
