Description
Spring barley of the Rapid variety is a medium-late grain-forage variety with a vegetative period ranging from 80 to 93 days. The plant is of medium height, with a semi-erect bush and medium branching. The head is long, cylindrical, loose, of medium density, with a pronounced waxy coating. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 41 to 53 grams, indicating the large-grained nature of the variety. Rapid belongs to the nudans group and is characterized by resistance to lodging and drought, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions of the Central region of Russia, including the Ryazan, Smolensk, and Tula regions. The variety boasts good yield: the average yield in the region is 35.1 centners per hectare, while the maximum reached 55.5 centners per hectare in the Ryazan region. Rapid is resistant to powdery mildew, but is susceptible to root rot and Helminthosporium disease, which requires a careful agronomic approach and timely plant protection. Protein content in the grain reaches 10.9%, making this variety attractive for use in the brewing industry due to its good malting quality. For sowing, a recommended seeding rate of 4.5 million viable seeds per hectare is advised. The Rapid variety was developed based on the hybridization of Explorer and Quench and has been included in the State Register for the Central region. Its characteristics, such as average head length, intensity of anthocyanin coloring, and grain traits, make it unique and in demand among producers. Thanks to its qualities and adaptability, Rapid barley is the optimal choice for farmers aiming for high yields and quality raw material for further processing.
