Description
RGT ASTEROID — a medium-maturing spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety, intended for brewing purposes. It is included in the State Register for the Central Region and recommended for cultivation in Smolensk and Tula regions. The growing period of the variety ranges from 73 to 93 days, allowing flexible planning of agronomic activities as it matures several days earlier or later than many other varieties. The plant is medium-height with semi-erect tillers, characterized by a cylindrical, medium-density ear and long, serrated awns with strong anthocyanic coloring at the tips.
The variety exhibits good lodging resistance and drought tolerance, comparable to standard varieties such as Vladimir, Ataman, and Yaromir. The 1000-grain weight varies from 42 to 55 grams, with large and very large grains featuring a non-hairy hilum. External characteristics include moderate anthocyanic coloring of the flag leaf sheaths and a waxy coating on the lower leaf sheaths, indicating its adaptive traits and resilience to adverse conditions.
In terms of yield, RGT ASTEROID performs exceptionally well: the average yield in the Central Region is 37.8 centners per hectare, with higher yields in Smolensk and Tula regions. Maximum yields reached 66.7 centners per hectare in the Moscow region. The variety shows moderate resistance to stone and dusty rust, and moderate susceptibility to root rots. Field infections by helminthosporium and net blotch were moderate, making it a reliable choice for brewing in the specified regions.
