SARYCH

Sarych is a multi-row barley variety created by hybridizing the Vakula and Orlan varieties. It belongs to the Volga Forest-Steppe agroecological group and is characterized by a medium-early maturity period, ranging from 71 to 82 days. The plants are medium-height, with a height varying from 42 to 70 cm, and can reach up to 80 cm with sufficient moisture. The variety is distinguished by good grain quality indicators comparable to the two-row standard Berkut: grain nativity ranges from 637 to 684 g/l, protein content reaches 12.5%, and grain yield is within 45–48%.

Sarych is recommended for cultivation in the Middle Volga region, where it has been approved for use since 2024. For sowing, a recommended seeding rate of 4.5–5.0 million viable seeds per hectare is advised. The variety responds well to intensification factors, allowing for stable and high yields with proper agrotechnical approach.

This variety is the result of work by breeders of the Samara Research Institute of Agricultural Science (SamNIISKh), who are engaged in creating new barley varieties with improved characteristics. In the grey cereal selection laboratory, research is conducted on yield, thousand-grain weight, disease resistance, and other important parameters, ensuring high quality and adaptability of the Sarych variety to growing conditions.
