Description
TAUSEN is a medium-early spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety, primarily intended for grain-feed use. The plant is of medium height with a semi-erect culm and a medium-density pyramidally-cylindrical spike. The grain is large, with 1000-grain mass ranging from 41 to 54 grams, ensuring high crop productivity. The vegetation period lasts from 79 to 90 days, allowing successful cultivation under various climatic conditions.
The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Northern region, including the Southern zone of the Arkhangelsk Region, as well as in the Central region of Russia, covering the Bryansk, Ivanovo, Kaluga, and Ryazan regions. Yields in these regions average 29.7–30.2 c/ha, with maximum indicators reaching up to 57.1 c/ha, exceeding average standards. Protein content in the grain ranges from 10.2% to 12.7%, making it valuable for feed purposes.
TAUSEN has moderate resistance to helminthosporiosis and resistance to diseases such as stem rust, loose smut, powdery mildew, and root rots. The plant is characterized by weak to medium anthocyanin pigmentation of the flag leaf auricles and the presence of a waxy coating on the sheaths of lower leaves, which contributes to its resistance to unfavorable conditions. Long awn-bearing spikes with anthocyanin pigmentation of the awn tips give the variety additional distinctive features. Due to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability, TAUSEN is a reliable choice for farmers focused on obtaining stable and high barley yields.
