Description
Barley variety Tocada is a medium-late spring barley, primarily intended for brewing purposes. The vegetation period ranges from 84 to 89 days, ensuring optimal maturation under various climatic conditions. Recommended growing zones include Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polесье, where the variety demonstrates high adaptability and stable productivity. Plants have medium height from 55.8 to 68.7 cm, with short or medium-length stems and intermediate plant type. Ear is pyramidal or cylindrical, loose or medium density, with long serrated awns, promoting good ventilation and reducing disease risk.
Tocada variety is characterized by low protein content in grain (10.9–14.5%, usually 11.1–11.7%), which is a key indicator for brewing barley, ensuring high-quality raw material. Grain uniformity ranges from 88.7–92.3%, enhancing consistency and improving technological properties during processing. Grain is large, with unhusked ventral groove and covering lodicule, facilitating cleaning and processing.
The variety exhibits high resistance to various diseases and pests: powdery mildew is rated 7–8, rust 5–8, helminthosporium 6–8, stem borers 7–9. Additionally, Tocada shows good drought resistance (8 points), lodging resistance (7–8 points), and shattering resistance (7–9 points), making it a reliable choice for cultivation under diverse agroclimatic conditions. Average yield in the region allowance is about 37.1 ц/ha, with maximum yields up to 75.9 ц/ha, confirming its high productivity and economic attractiveness for farmers.
