Description
The VORSINSKY spring barley variety is a medium-early brewing barley bred by Russian breeders of the Federal Altai Scientific Center for Agrobiotechnology. The plant is medium-height with a semi-erect bush, characterized by a pyramidal loose ear with weak or medium waxy coating. The mass of 1000 grains varies within 39-50 grams, the grain is large, with an unpubescent abdominal groove and an encompassing lodicule. Awns are equal in length to the ear, serrated with strong anthocyanin coloration of the tips, and strong anthocyanin coloration is noted on the flag leaf ears and very strong waxy coating on the sheaths of lower leaves. The vegetative period of the variety is 80-90 days, which makes it medium-early. VORSINSKY differs in high yield, which in various tests reached from 26.2 to 46.8 centners per hectare, which is 1.5 centners higher than the average standard. The variety is resistant to shattering and lodging, and also possesses drought resistance, which allows for successful cultivation in the Altai region, including the Kulunda Steppe and the Forelands of Altai, as well as in the Tyumen region. The protein content in the grain is about 11.7%, and the germination energy reaches 98%. Despite a number of positive characteristics, VORSINSKY has moderate susceptibility to solid head smut and strong susceptibility to powdery head smut, helminthosporiosis, and root rots. These features require attention during agronomic activities and the selection of plant protection means. In general, the VORSINSKY variety is a valuable brewing barley with good agronomic and technological properties, recommended for cultivation in regions with a moderately arid climate.
