Description
Zlatoyar is a medium-maturing grain-ensilage barley variety created to increase the content of valuable nutrients in the grain. It belongs to the nutans type and has a vegetative period of 82-88 days. The mass of 1000 grains ranges from 41 to 54 grams; the grain is large, with an unpowdered ventral groove and enveloping lodicules. The variety is distinguished by high yield, reaching a maximum of 56.5 centners per hectare, and an average yield of about 30.5 centners per hectare.
Zlatoyar possesses resistance to a number of diseases, including stem rust, net blotch, and dark brown spot, as well as moderate resistance to powdery scab. Thanks to these qualities, the variety demonstrates stable technological indicators such as grain naturalness of 703-733 g/l, grain uniformity of 97.7-99.1%, vitreousness of 31-52%, and a high yield of groats after 4 minutes — 55.3-59.8%. This makes it especially suitable for the production of groat products.
Special attention is paid to the nutritional characteristics of the grain: protein content varies from 13.0 to 16.2%, and lysine levels reach 0.43-0.54%, which significantly enhances nutritional value. Pearl porridge prepared from Zlatoyar grains is noted for its good cooking properties and attractive color, confirming the high consumer qualities of the groats. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the northwestern regions of Russia, including the Vologda and Yaroslavl regions.
