Description
Malachite is a new basil variety of the Genovesa type, distinguished by its early maturity period of 40-45 days. Bushes reach a height of 22-26 cm and a diameter of 36-40 cm, while the weight of one plant is approximately 300-320 grams. This variety is characterized by high yield—ranging from 2.2 to 2.5 kg per square meter, making it attractive for commercial cultivation. Malachite has an attractive market appearance and excellent taste with a caramel-minty nuance, making it ideal for use fresh, in salads, and for canning.
It is recommended to grow Malachite basil in protected cultivation, which allows for controlling conditions and obtaining a stable harvest. For sowing, seeds are sown in boxes to a depth of 0.5-1 cm at the end of March to early April at an optimal temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius. Seedlings appear within 10-15 days. Seedlings are transplanted into open ground after the threat of frost has passed, maintaining a distance of 15-20 cm between plants in a row and 60 cm between rows. Planting is best done in the late afternoon at a depth of 6-8 cm.
Plant care includes loosening inter-row spaces, weeding, regular watering, and fertilization. Basil grows well on organic-rich, loamy soils that heat up well and are protected from cold winds. For successful cultivation, the seedling method is recommended, which ensures a higher level of survival and plant development.
