SHEGARSKAYA

Bogblue «Shegarskaya» is a variety selected from wild forms and bred at the Central Botanical Garden of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The bushes are of medium height (40–50 cm), slightly spreading, with shoots of medium length that are bent at the base and light brown in color. Leaves have an inverted egg shape, are hairless, have a leathery surface, and a matte sheen; the leaf base is broadly wedge-shaped, and the lamina is convex. The inflorescence is short, usually with 1–2 flowers, sometimes 3-flowered.

The berries of this variety are large (≈ 1.1 g), round-oval, and asymmetric with small facets. The skin is dark blue with a waxy bloom and feels tender. The taste is sweet-sour, without a pronounced aroma. Berries ripen at the end of July – beginning of August, simultaneously across the entire bush. The variety is self-sterile and has high winter hardiness, disease resistance, and good yield (about 0.4 kg/m² or 4 t/ha).

«Shegarskaya» is intended for universal use: fresh berries, jam, and compote – all receive high tasting scores. Berries contain about 5.7% sugars and up to 1.8% acids, as well as vitamin C (up to 51.5 mg/100 g), pectin (up to 2.3%), and anthocyanins (≈ 0.2%). Fruiting begins in the third year after planting. Thanks to its characteristics, the variety is widely used in all regions where bogblue is cultivated.
