Description
Genetic Potential of the M.M. Gryshko NBG Selection
The "Polonyna" series is the result of long-term breeding efforts at the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden in Ukraine. This series represents adaptive breeding tailored to the specific climatic conditions of Eastern Europe, focusing on resistance to nocturnal temperature fluctuations in September and October, alongside consistent inflorescence development.
Morphological Characteristics and Growth Habits
The primary advantage of this series is its versatility. The plant demonstrates two distinct growth patterns depending on the applied cultivation technology:
- Pot Culture: When pinched and managed correctly, the plant maintains a compact medium height (30-60 cm), making it ideal for patio and balcony containers.
- Field Culture: In open ground, this chrysanthemum displays high vigor, reaching 60+ cm in height, which is essential for landscaping and cut flower production.
The ball-shaped and pompon inflorescence forms provide high petal density, increasing the bloom's resilience against mechanical damage and prolonged autumn rains. The dense structure of the inflorescence is a direct result of selection aimed at reducing the count of undeveloped buds in the center of the capitulum.
Color Palette and Phenology
The series offers a wide color range from pure white and yellow to vibrant red and complex bicolors. From a technical standpoint, the bloom timing is crucial: the early segment (September) allows for harvest before the first major frosts, while mid-season varieties (October) extend the decorative period. Integrating these factors allows professional growers to build a sequential flowering schedule, minimizing the risk of quality loss at the end of the season.

Flowering Duration
Flowering begins on the 37-48th day after emergence and lasts 20-40 days. As for pollination, rapeseed is facultative self-pollinating (up to 20% of plants can self-pollinate cross-pollinated), the spatial isolation norm on seed plots is not less than 500m. |
