Description
Gossypium hirsutum L. variety Goss 4 is a medium-height plant with a conical shape and medium leaf density. The leaves are palmate, medium-sized, with a central vein and moderately hairy undersides; they feature gossypol glands and nectaries. The flowers are characterized by creamy petals.
The fruiting part is a medium-sized capsule with an oval longitudinal cross-section, strongly open and covered with medium-sized interrupted ribs. The pedicel and apex emergence are within the medium range. Raw cotton content in the capsule is medium, and the 1000-seed weight ranges from 120 g to 125 g. The seeds are medium-sized, with dense fibers.
The fiber of this variety is characterized by medium length (28.7–32.4 mm), medium strength and fineness; linear density is approximately 170 mtex. The fiber yield from raw cotton is approximately 37.8 %. Specific breaking load reaches 31.2 Gs/tex, and the fiber type belongs to IV–V.
The raw cotton yield ranges from 13.4 to 16.9 c/ha, with the proportion of early harvests being around 70 %. Seed yield is in the range of 8.4–10.5 c/ha. The vegetative period lasts 122–125 days.
The variety is suitable for mechanical harvesting and is resistant to diseases; damage by sucking pests (spider mites, aphids) is minimal. It is recommended for cultivation in the arid zone of the North Caucasus and is suitable for non-irrigated conditions.
