Description

Cucumber Major — an early-maturing parthenocarpic hybrid of cornichon type, suitable for cultivation both in open ground and in greenhouses. The plant is strong and hardy, forming 2-3 uniform dark-green fruits per node, 9-12 cm long and up to 150 g in weight. The fruits are characterized by intense and even coloring without a white tip, dense flesh without cavities, making the variety especially attractive for pickling and fresh consumption. Major is distinguished by high yield, reliability, and good fruit storability.

The hybrid is resistant to major cucumber diseases, such as leaf spot, powdery mildew, vein yellowing viruses, and cucumber mosaic, which significantly simplifies care and increases harvest stability. Sowing seeds in greenhouses is recommended from March to April into small pots at a depth of 0.5 cm at a temperature of 21-24°C. Seedlings emerge within 7-14 days, after which seedlings should be moved to a cooler location. By late May, plants are gradually hardened off and transplanted into open ground with a spacing of 60 cm.

To form side shoots, pinch off plants when they reach 5-6 leaves. Sowing in open ground is conducted from May to June into prepared moist soil, sowing 2 seeds at a depth of 0.5 cm with a spacing of 60 cm. During the growing season, regular watering, weeding, and feeding with organic fertilizers are required. Yield is maintained from July to September. The variety can also be grown in large pots, provided that abundant watering and feeding are ensured.
