Description
Minion cucumber fruits have an oval-cylindrical shape, measuring 7 to 9 cm in length and weighing 75–90 g. The cucumbers are firm, crisp, finely ribbed, and free of bitterness, ensuring a pleasant taste. Due to their size and flavor qualities, these cucumbers are suitable for fresh consumption as well as for pickling and salting. The variety is resistant to several diseases, including cucumber mosaic virus, olive spot, true powdery mildew, and tolerant to false powdery mildew, as well as cold tolerance.
For successful cultivation, Minion cucumbers prefer fertile, medium-loamy, and well-drained soils. Crop rotation with predecessors such as potatoes, onions, cabbage, and peppers is recommended. Seeds should be sown at a depth of 1.5–2 cm at a temperature of about 25°C, then lowered to 20°C. Transplanting seedlings should occur after the danger of frost has passed, with a planting density of 3–4 plants per square meter. For balcony cultivation, full sun exposure, large containers with nutrient-rich soil mix, and vertical supports are required. Care includes covering plants with plastic film, training vines, and regular watering with feedings. Yield reaches 18 kg/m2 in open ground and up to 32 kg/m2 in greenhouses.
