Description

The Indigo eggplant variety is one of the earliest hybrids suitable for cultivation in both open and protected ground. This variety is particularly suitable for northern regions and risk-prone agricultural zones due to its high cold hardiness and resistance to most diseases. Fruit production begins 105-110 days after germination, allowing for a quick harvest. The bushes of this hybrid are not tall — reaching 50-60 cm in open ground and about 1 meter in protected areas. They are strong and powerful but require staking due to abundant fruiting. Indigo eggplant fruits have a classic cylindrical shape, about 20-25 cm long and weighing from 180 to 250 grams. The skin is thin, smooth, and colored dark purple. The flesh is dense, white, almost seedless, with a good taste and absence of bitterness. A feature of the variety is the small number of spines on the sepals, which significantly facilitates harvesting. Thanks to these qualities, the fruits have good storage and transportability, making the variety convenient for commercial cultivation and storage. The Indigo hybrid not only features high yield — up to 8 kg per square meter in open ground and up to 13 kg in protected — but also a long fruiting period that can last up to 2.5 months. The recommended planting density is 3-4 plants per square meter. Successful cultivation requires providing proper care, taking into account the hybrid's features, which will allow maximizing the variety's potential and obtaining a stable and quality harvest.
