Description
Phacelia 'Ryazan' is an annual herbaceous plant from the Hydrophyllaceae family (Phacelia tanacetifolia), reaching a height of 50 to over 100 cm. It is characterized by rapid growth and generous green mass, making it an ideal cover crop for improving soil structure. The root system penetrates deeply into the soil, promoting aeration and enhancing fertility.
From mid-summer to the end of August, phacelia opens complex shield-like-corymbose inflorescences of a lilac-blue hue. Flowers about 1 cm long attract bees and other pollinating insects, making the plant a valuable nectar source. The fruit is a wide capsule containing two dark-brown seeds, which are easily dispersed.
For growing Phacelia 'Ryazan', sowing in loosened soil after snow melt or in rows between crops is recommended. Seeds can be scattered with sand for better visibility; sowing depth – 2–3 cm, rate – 0.8–1.0 kg/100 m². The plant requires a sunny location and moderate watering, only during drought periods if necessary. Care includes soil loosening, feeding with organic fertilizers, and cutting during bud formation. After harvest, phacelia can be incorporated into the soil or used as mulch.
Phacelia 'Ryazan' possesses frost resistance, is resistant to diseases and pests, and can suppress the growth of weeds. Thanks to these properties, it is widely used in agronomy and gardening for maintaining soil fertility, attracting pollinators, and improving the microclimate of the site.
