Description
Gladiolus Northern Bell is an exquisite variety with elegant, large white flowers with a pearl-like sheen. The plant reaches a height of 120–140 cm, and the flower stem produces up to 18 buds, from which 8–10 large blooms of up to 14 cm in diameter open simultaneously. Flowering occurs during the mid-season — from late July to August. Thanks to its delicate coloring and majestic appearance, this gladiolus is perfect for decorating gardens, flower beds, borders, and mixed borders, as well as for creating luxurious bouquets. In cut arrangements, the flowers retain freshness for a long time, making them popular in floristry.
The plant adapts well to various growing conditions and is highly resistant to diseases. For successful growth, gladiolus requires a sunny location without drafts, well-drained and nutrient-rich soil, preferably sandy loam or loose clay with normal water exchange. Before planting, soil should be thoroughly prepared: in autumn, it should be plowed, organic fertilizers and superphosphate should be added. Clay soils should be amended with sand and improved with ash and fine straw. Low-lying or waterlogged areas are not suitable for planting.
Corms are planted from April to May into soil warmed to 10–15 °C, at a depth of about 15 cm, with rows spaced at least 35 cm apart. Before planting, corms are sorted, treated with a manganese solution for disease prevention, and soaked in disinfectants. The plant requires regular watering, especially at the beginning of flowering, and protection from pests such as thrips using insecticidal treatments. With proper care, Gladiolus Northern Bell will delight with its elegant blooms and become a decoration of any garden.
