The 3S 4000F model by Great Plains is a 12-meter wide grain drill engineered for efficiency in both minimum-tillage and conventional seeding operations. The focus of its design is consistent seed placement and superior ground contour following at higher operational speeds.

Opener technology: The 00-series performance

At the heart of the 3S 4000F are the proven 00-series openers. Each opener is mounted on a parallel linkage, which allows it to track the terrain independently of the main frame. The offset blade design ensures that the opener creates a clean furrow even in fields with high residue, preventing plugging and ensuring the seed reaches the target depth consistently.

• Depth control: The T-handle adjustment system offers 6 mm increments, allowing for precise depth setting essential for shallow-planted crops.
• Down pressure: With a spring-based down pressure system providing up to 82 kg per opener, the unit maintains consistent penetration in varying soil density conditions.

Structural integrity and transport

Despite the 12-meter width, Great Plains engineers developed a folding mechanism that allows for manageable transport dimensions. The weight distribution across the frame is optimized to minimize bouncing, enabling steady work speeds of up to 10–12 km/h without compromising seed placement accuracy.

Drivetrain and metering

The seeding precision is handled by heavy-duty fluted feed meters.
