Description
Hydrangea 'Amur Arrow' – a compact shrub with a round, fan-shaped crown, 1.4–1.6 m high and 0.9–1.1 m wide. Stems are sturdy and thick, reddish in spring, turning brown by autumn. Leaves are bright green, lance-shaped, 10–12 cm long, with an acute apex and serrated margin; they turn olive green in autumn.
Inflorescences are large panicles, initially broadly pyramidal, later transitioning to narrow, ear-like forms. Inflorescence size varies from 25 to 45 cm; when open, they resemble corn tassels. The flower remains dazzling white throughout the blooming period due to almost complete absence of petal browning. Both sterile and fertile flowers are present in the inflorescence (no more than 20%), adding fullness to the composition.
The plant is highly resistant to pests, diseases, and a wide range of climatic conditions: it withstands frost down to –36 °C, grows well in both sunny and semi-shaded areas. It does not require winter protection, adapts to various soil types, including waterlogged and temporarily dry sites. Regular watering and fertilization are recommended during the active growth and flowering periods for optimal development.
'Amur Arrow' is excellent for landscape design: as a solitary plant on a lawn, in compositions with conifers, or for creating living fences. Due to its ornamental value and tolerance to growing conditions, it is popular among gardeners.
