Description
Hydrangea "Meshcha Leskovo" is a compact bush with a height of 30 to 60 cm and a width of approximately the same size. The bush has a dome-like, slightly spreading shape; stems are sturdy, olive-colored in spring, turning brownish by autumn. Leaves – smooth, lanceolate, 6–7 cm long, without fuzzy undersides.
The main distinguishing feature of the variety is the double inflorescences, 15–20 cm in size. They are dense, round, and broadly pyramidal, consisting of sterile flowers. Flowering begins in mid-July and continues until mid-October. At the beginning of the period, the flowers have a pale green tint, then a pink border appears, gradually filling the petal; the center remains light green, and at full maturity, the inflorescences acquire a lime-pink or red hue. Flowers do not fade throughout the entire flowering period.
"Meshcha Leskovo" is distinguished by high resistance to diseases and pests, including powdery mildew and fungal infections, as well as good frost hardiness down to –32 °C, which allows growing the plant without winter cover. Regular watering and fertilization are recommended, especially during the active growth period. For optimal development, they prefer fertile, well-drained soils with low acidity and sunny or semi-shaded lighting. The bush can be used as an accent on a lawn, in planters, or in compositions with other decorative plants, as well as in open ground and containers.
