Technical Profile and Morphology

Flax "Rusich" is a specialized variety developed by the breeding team of the Federal Research Center for Bast Fiber Crops (Nikandrova M.L., Strukova N.V., Ryseva T.A.). The primary objective in developing this genotype was the optimization of the plant's habit for mechanized harvesting and the assurance of a consistent fiber yield.

Plant Architecture

The key parameter of the variety is the stem height, which ranges between 50–60 cm. In industrial flax production, this height is considered technologically balanced: it prevents lodging while maintaining the necessary weight of the technical part of the stem. The stem structure allows for uniform fiber maturation, a critical factor for primary processing at flax mills.

Production Characteristics

• Originator and Intellectual Property: Scientific support and authorship are vested in the specialized federal center, with Pskov Agricultural Research Institute (a branch of the Federal Research Center for Bast Fiber Crops) serving as the patent holder. This ensures varietal purity and predictability of the reproductive material.
• Agrotechnical Value: The variety is adapted to moderate-moisture climatic zones. Its moderate growth (50–60 cm) minimizes losses during mowing and field retting, as it reduces wind-induced stress on the plants and decreases the load on harvesting machinery.

"Rusich" is oriented toward intensive cultivation practices, where adherence to seeding rates is the defining factor. Given the variety's fixed growth characteristics, agronomists can more easily plan herbicide and fungicide applications by precisely mapping vegetation phases. The absence of excessive vegetative mass allows for more efficient fertilizer utilization, directing growth energy toward the quality of the bast fiber.
