Tomich

TOMICH is an early-maturing variety of flax (Linum usitatissimum L. f. elongata) designed for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the North-Western, Central, and Volga-Vyatskaya regions. The plant is characterized by an average stem length, absence or very weak spotting of the sepals, and a blue-violet corolla color in the bud stage, which turns blue at full development. The pistil at the base is blue, the capsule is small and lacks fringed false partitions. Seeds are dark brown, with a 1000-seed mass of approximately 4.7-4.9 grams. The vegetative period varies from 78 to 85 days, confirming the early maturity of the variety. The variety demonstrates high yields of flax straw and seeds in various regions: in the North-Western region, flax straw yield reaches about 39.5-39.6 c/ha, and seeds—4.5 c/ha; in the Central region—35.5-44.0 c/ha of flax straw and 4.4-5.7 c/ha of seeds; in the Volga-Vyatskaya region, flax straw yield reaches 56.3 c/ha, and seeds—7.4 c/ha. Total fiber content ranges from 27.4% to 32.8%, long fiber yield is from 8.7% to 25%, and relative breaking load varies within 10.2-11.9 DaN. Resistance to lodging and shattering is rated highly, with scores of about 4.0-4.8 points, ensuring reliability during cultivation. TOMICH is distinguished by good resistance to major flax diseases, including fusarium wilt, bacterial infection, and anthracnose, with infections noted as weak or very weak. Due to these qualities and high agronomic indicators, the variety is recommended for cultivation in Vologda Region and other regions with similar climatic conditions. High seed and fiber quality makes this variety attractive for agricultural production and industrial use.
