Description
SATELLITE is a variety of blue lucerne (Medicago sativa L. subsp. sativa) characterized by early maturity and high yield. The plant has low or medium height in spring, with a semi-erect bush, green leaves, and a central leaflet of medium length and width. The stem is of medium length at full flowering, and the time of flowering onset is medium. Flowers are predominantly blue-violet; the frequency of plants with very dark flowers is low, and those with cream, white, or yellow flowers is absent or very low.
The variety is included in the State Register for the Central Black Earth and Middle Volga regions and is recommended for cultivation in the Belgorod and Tambov regions. Average dry matter yield is about 91.5 c/ha in the Central Black Earth region and 49.2 c/ha in the Middle Volga region, exceeding standards by 4.0 and 3.4 c/ha respectively. During testing, the variety demonstrated disease resistance, with no damages observed.
Due to its characteristics, SATELLITE is suitable for use in feed production, providing a stable and high yield of quality raw material. Its semi-erect bush and medium height make the variety convenient for mechanized harvesting.
