Description
Narrow-leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) – early-maturing forage type variety with high resistance to lodging and seed shattering. Medium-sized plant, semi-erect, indeterminate, reaching a height of 60 to 120 cm. Light green, narrow leaves; terminal leaflet of medium length. Flowers white with a yellow keel tip; in some manifestations, weak anthocyanin stem coloration is observed during flowering. Pods are long, seeds – white without ornamentation.
The vegetation period is 90–100 days from germination to seed maturity; when used as a cover crop, growth accelerates and full maturity is achieved in 55 days. Yield of dry matter of green mass – about 32.1 centners/ha, and of seeds – 20 centners/ha. The mass of 1000 seeds is in the range of 130–150 g. According to the applicant's data, the protein content is 36–40 %, making the variety valuable as both a forage and cover crop.
Lupin is used for the production of feed, cover crops, and sowing crops. Thanks to the high concentration of nitrogen in the soil after cultivation, it increases the fertility of subsequent cereal plants. Seeds are suitable for feeding most agricultural animals, and green mass can be used as manure. The variety is easily sown on soils of medium density and in a rye crop rotation, however, it requires control over weeds after sowing.
