Description
Sobel pea is a high-yielding grain legume widely used in Ukrainian agriculture. This mid-season variety is characterized by its adaptability and resistance to various adverse conditions. Plant height reaches 100-120 cm, and the vegetation period is approximately 80-85 days. The potential yield of this variety reaches up to 60 centners per hectare, making it attractive for farmers aiming to achieve high productivity.
Sobel pea seeds have a high protein content — around 26% — ensuring their nutritional value. Each pod contains 7 to 9 seeds, and the 1000-seed mass varies within the range of 240-270 grams. For sowing, a row spacing of 12.5 cm and seed planting depth of 4-5 cm are recommended. The variety exhibits good resistance to major pea diseases, including ascochitosis, stem rot, powdery mildew, viral infections, and pea rust, significantly reducing yield losses and improving product quality.
Sobel pea belongs to the shelling types with white flowers and light-colored roundish seeds. Such varieties are characterized by pods that dry and easily split open upon maturation, requiring timely harvest to prevent seed shattering. Pea seeds contain an average of 52% starch, 1.3% fat, 5.7% fiber, and 2.4% ash at a moisture content of about 12.5%. Due to its qualities and drought resistance, the Sobel variety is a reliable choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions in Ukraine.
