Description
Terno pea is an intensive, medium-maturing grain variety recommended for cultivation in the Polesie, Forest Steppe, and Steppe regions. Plants reach a height of 60-80 cm, have a compact and simple stem with two to three flowers per node, ensuring early flowering and uniform pod ripening. The average number of seeds per pod is 5-6, with a maximum of up to 7; the 1000-seed weight varies from 200 to 220 grams. The seeding rate is 200-250 kg/ha or 1.1-1.3 million seeds per hectare, which enables achieving a potential yield of about 3.4-3.5 tons per hectare.
The variety exhibits high resistance to various diseases, including ascochytosis, anthracnose, and fusarium, as well as to stress factors, confirmed by an 8-point rating in each resistance category. Plants lack anthocyanin pigmentation, and pods have an intense green color at technical maturity with a parchment layer. Pods are slightly curved, up to 8-9 cm long and 1.2-1.3 cm wide, containing 7-8 medium to large oval, wrinkled seeds.
Terno is intended for direct combine harvesting and is widely used in grain production. Its high seed protein content — from 21 to 23.6% — makes it attractive for agricultural production. Due to its compactness and ability to grow even under shading conditions, the variety demonstrates stable yield and adaptability to various climatic conditions.
