Description
Tyumen Feed Peas — a mid-season variety of field peas (Pisum sativum L.) intended primarily for feed purposes. The plants feature a non-shattering type, ensuring high seed retention during harvesting. The vegetation period is 68-80 days, plant height varies from 53 to 95 cm, and the mass of 1000 seeds reaches 186-240 g. The variety is characterized by high resistance to shattering and moderate resistance to lodging, contributing to stable harvest collection. However, it is susceptible to ascocytosis and root rots, which requires attention during agrotechnical measures.
The Tyumen Feed Peas variety is adapted for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Volga-Vyatka, West Siberian, Northwest, Central, Central Non-Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, and East Siberian regions. It was created at the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Northern Ural region through individual selection from a hybrid population and has been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements since 2014. In terms of morphological characteristics, the variety belongs to the ordinary leaflet morphotype but is distinguished by the absence of leaflets, which is its distinguishing feature.
The variety has high yield: the average harvest of dry matter is about 51 c/ha, seeds — 18.5 c/ha, while protein content in dry matter reaches 16%, and in seeds — 22%. The variety responds well to summer rainfall and is relatively drought-resistant, ensuring harvest stability under various climatic conditions. In terms of productivity and output of feed units, Tyumen Feed Peas outperforms control varieties, providing a higher gross collection of protein and metabolizable energy, making it a cost-effective choice for feed production.
