YAMAL

The Yamal pea variety is a medium-early, stemless type with well-developed tendrils, bred through intraspecific hybridization followed by two rounds of individual selection. Plants reach a height of 52 to 100 cm, which is 12-25 cm shorter than standard varieties, with 18-20 internodes and pods attached high on the stem. Pods are slightly curved, containing 6-8 peas, while seeds are spherical with yellow cotyledons and a light hilum. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 186 to 240 g. Flowers are white, with two per node, and typically 5-8 fully formed pods develop on the plant.

Yamal is characterized by high grain and green mass yield, reaching 3.5–6.0 t/ha of grain and 350-380 c/ha of green mass, making it versatile for various purposes. The vegetative period is 71-83 days, corresponding to a medium-early maturity period. The variety is resistant to lodging and pod shattering, with lodging resistance scores of 4.5–4.8 points, which is above average for standard varieties. High resistance to shedding also helps preserve the yield.

However, the Yamal variety has moderate drought resistance and is susceptible to certain diseases such as ascochitos, root rots, and powdery mildew, and is moderately affected by anthracnose. For protection, seed treatment with systemic preparations is recommended. The recommended sowing rate is 120–130 plants per square meter for early sowing dates and 130–140 for late sowing, with a sowing depth of 4–6 cm. To increase productivity, the application of NPK mineral fertilizers with a nitrogen dose not exceeding 35 kg/ha is possible.
