Breeding Breakthrough from NULES: Spring Rapeseed "Sirius"

In the face of climate instability and rising quality standards for oilseed raw materials, the spring rapeseed variety "Sirius" from the breeders of NULES of Ukraine (National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine) occupies a niche as high-performance material for intensive agricultural technologies. It is a simple linear hybrid variety designed to achieve stable yields when maintaining a sowing density of 600,000–700,000 plants per hectare.

Agronomic Performance and Potential

The key advantage of "Sirius" is the balance between yield and grain quality characteristics. With proper agronomic practices, the potential yield reaches 60–70 c/ha, putting it on par with top imported analogs. The technological properties of the seeds meet modern processing standards:

• Oil content: 45–50%, ensuring high profitability upon sale.
• Glucosinolate content: 9–10 µmol (meeting "00"-type requirements).
• Low erucic acid content, which is crucial for the food and feed industries.

The plant height is moderate (150–160 cm), which facilitates mechanized harvesting and reduces grain loss during combining.

Pathogen Resistance and Protection
