Portola

Portola strawberry is a remontant, high-yielding variety with neutral day length, developed in California (USA). It is distinguished by its early ripening and ability to bear fruit in three to four waves from May to November. Berries are large, round-conical, weighing 30 to 50 grams, bright red with a glossy skin. They have a rich honeyed flavor with fruity notes and a pleasant aroma. The fruits are highly juicy and tender, yet maintain strong skin integrity, ensuring good transportability and storage during harvesting and transit.

Portola strawberry plants are adaptable to various growing conditions and can thrive in almost any soil, though for maximum yield, they are best planted on sunny sites with fertile, well-drained soil and regular watering. Yield per plant ranges from 1.5 to 1.8 kg. The variety shows good resistance to frost and most diseases, though it is more susceptible to spotting diseases; thus, maintaining optimal spacing between plants is crucial to reduce infection risk.
