Description
Climbing rose 'Paul's Scarlet Climber' is an impressive British selection variety that will become a decoration for any garden. The plants of this species can reach a height of up to 2.5 meters and feature dense, upright growth with strong stems and sturdy thorns. The rose leaves are dark green, matte, and medium-hard, giving the plant a neat and well-maintained appearance. The flowers are large, about 7 cm in diameter, cup-shaped, semi-double, composed of 45-55 petals of rich red color, which may fade to a cherry hue. The flowering is abundant and wave-like, lasting from June to October with intervals, and the delicate, fragrant aroma adds special charm to this variety. 'Paul's Scarlet Climber' is low-maintenance and well-adapted to various climatic conditions and soils, provided that good drainage and fertile, light soil with neutral or slightly acidic reaction are ensured. The plant prefers sunny or slightly shaded locations, but can also grow successfully in partial shade, although it does not tolerate dense shade. Mulching with bark or peat is recommended to maintain soil moisture. The rose is resistant to powdery mildew and other diseases, and can withstand frost down to -23 °C, making it suitable for cultivation in various regions. Planting is best done in spring or autumn, with spring planting considered more gentle for seedlings. This variety is excellent for creating vertical accents in the garden: it beautifully decorates pergolas, gazebo walls, fences, and other garden structures, concealing their imperfections. Thanks to its vivid carmine flowers and strong bush, 'Paul's Scarlet' harmonizes well with small-flowered clematis, perennial fragrant sweet peas, and annuals, allowing the creation of original and eye-catching compositions. Such decorative potential combined with low maintenance and resilience makes 'Paul's Scarlet Climber' an excellent choice for both experienced breeders and garden enthusiasts.
