Description
The winter rye variety "Serpánok" was developed by breeders of Volhynia and is primarily intended for the bakery industry. This variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 10–11 tons per hectare, and plant height of 120–130 cm, which ensures resistance to lodging. "Serpánok" has undergone variety trials at all variety trial stations in Ukraine, received a certificate and patent, confirming its quality and reliability.
Winter rye "Serpánok" is resistant to diseases and easy to cultivate, capable of growing on acidic soils unfavorable for wheat. The variety can be sown even at later dates — in the 20s of October — which expands sowing opportunities and improves agronomic performance. For optimal plant development, it requires a main complex fertilizer of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compounds in autumn and spring top-dressing on frozen soil.
In addition to use in the bakery industry, the "Serpánok" variety is suitable for animal feeding. However, due to the high acidity of the grain, it is recommended to mill rye together with wheat, barley, or oats, with the proportion of rye in the feed mixture being around 30%. This approach ensures balanced nutrition and improves feed quality.
