Description
Pasture ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) – a perennial grass of the highland type, widely used as a forage crop and in greening mixtures. The PSKOVSKIY MESTNY variety was included in the register of approved varieties in 1980 and belongs to the northern and northwestern regions. The breeder is FGBNU "Federal Research Center for Leguminous Crops", which confirms its breeding purity and compliance with GOST requirements.
The crop is characterized by high resistance to loads: it is not afraid of trampling, recovers quickly after mowing, and can be mowed 2-3 times per season without loss of quality. With irrigation, up to 5-6 mowings are possible. The optimal growth temperature is 18–25 °C; germination begins at temperatures above +2 °C, and the plant can withstand moderate frosts, although snowless winters may pose a threat.
PSKOVSKIY MESTNY provides good fodder nutritive value: green mass 300–400 c/ha, hay – 70–110 c/ha. Thanks to a dense root layer, the plant improves soil structure and increases its fertility, making it a valuable cover crop. In lawn mixtures, the variety reaches a height of up to 50 cm, while in forage mixtures – up to 100–150 cm, while maintaining good foliage and stem softness.
