Description
The "Yershovskiy 4" variety belongs to the medium-height and medium-maturity type of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and is intended for the production of oilseeds. The plant reaches a height of 60 to 95 cm, has a one-year life cycle with a vegetative period lasting about 101 days. Flowering occurs in average time, and petals are yellow with possible color variation.
Seeds of the variety are characterized by a white glossy appearance, elongated shape, and slightly prominent ribs. The seed tip is blunt, and the testaceous layer is deeply embedded in the hull. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 48 to 55 grams, dehiscence – 42–47 %. Fat content in absolutely dry seeds reaches 34.6%, and in the kernel – 48.4%. Protein content is about 18.3% and oleic acid is at an average level.
The variety is distinguished by high yield: average production ranges from 16 to 25 centners of seeds per hectare. It is resistant to soil and air drought, and does not show signs of disease damage. Resistance to safflower fly meets the standard. Thanks to these characteristics, "Yershovskiy 4" is suitable for mechanized harvesting and subsequent processing of seeds into oil.
