Description
The 'Adaptive' sea buckthorn variety (UA3700078) is a highly adapted form of pear-shaped sea buckthorn obtained through the breeding work of the Institute of Horticulture of the NAS of Ukraine. It distinguishes by outstanding resilience to various ecological conditions of the forest-steppe and Polesie regions, confirmed by morphobiological studies in the northern part of the forest-steppe of Ukraine. Due to these characteristics, 'Adaptive' has become one of the key genotypes included in the national genetic bank of plants of the country and is recognized as a valuable material for the further development of intensive horticulture.
The physical properties of the fruit of the variety allow it to be used in both the food and pharmaceutical industries. The berries have an oval shape, a weight of about 1 g, a bright orange color and a juicy fleshy pulp with a characteristic sweet taste and a slight sourness. The ripening period falls at the end of July – beginning of August, which makes it an early variety in the season. High yield reaches 16–18 kg of fruits from one tree, and the height of an adult plant is from 2.5 to 3.5 m.
The variety has exceptional resilience to unfavorable factors: frost hardiness allows it to withstand temperatures up to -32 °C and even -35 °C, drought resistance ensures stable fruiting with limited watering, and high resistance to diseases and pests. The root system is open, penetrating to a depth of 140–180 cm, which contributes to resistance to withering and increases overall productivity. Thanks to the rich content of vitamins, antioxidant substances, folic acid and flavonoids, the fruits of 'Adaptive' contribute to strengthening immunity, lowering blood pressure and improving the condition of the skin.
For gardeners, the variety is offered in a set with two seedlings (boy and girl) aged 2 years, height 1.1–1.3 m. These plants are easily grown on various types of soils provided proper soil preparation, which makes 'Adaptive' an ideal choice for a wide range of horticultural projects.
