Description
Hippophae 'Red Torch' is a Russian selection breed included in the State Register in 2003, intended for cultivation in the West Siberian region. It features medium-sized bushes with a slightly spreading spherical crown, a straight trunk, and medium-thick shoots. Leaves are green, medium-sized, with minimal thorniness – thorns are arranged singly.
Fruits are round-oval, red, weighing 0.6–0.7 g, with dense and juicy pulp. Fruits contain sugars (5.6%), acids (3.8%), and Vitamin C (169.8 mg/%). Carotenoids are present in significant quantities – 21.6 mg/%, as well as oils (5.6%). The taste is sweet-sour with a delicate aroma. Fruits are suitable for processing, freezing, and fresh consumption.
The variety is characterized by high yield – up to 12.7 tons/ha, late ripening (from September 10-15), and excellent winter hardiness, enduring temperatures down to -40 °C. It is resistant to endomycosis, pests, and diseases, and develops well in soil rich in moisture and nutrients. For planting, spring is recommended, with a scheme of 4 x 2 m, on a sunny plot with fertile soil; the plant should be protected from wind gusts and heavy snow to avoid shoot damage.
