Description
Sea buckthorn "Koster" – a mid-season variety developed at the South-Ural Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing and Potato Breeding by crossing the famous variety "Chui" with form No. 1. The tree is medium-sized with a slightly open canopy; shoots are of medium length, slightly curved, dark brown, and non-hairy, while leaves are silvery-green.
Fruits are large, weighing 0.7–0.9 g, elongated in shape, and red-orange in color. The taste is sour-sweet with a refreshing aroma; the flesh is juicy and dense, containing high levels of vitamins C, B, E, carotene, and vitamin C reaches up to 125 mg%. Due to these properties, sea buckthorn "Koster" is valued in both the food and pharmaceutical industries.
The variety is distinguished by frost resistance, tolerance to low temperatures, diseases, and pests. It is recommended for planting in a sunny location with sufficient moisture; the optimal option is two-year seedlings with a well-developed root system. "Koster" is suitable for cultivation in the Ural, West Siberian, and Central regions, where its resistance to climatic conditions ensures a stable yield.
