Obriy

"Obriy" variety – one of the representatives of domestic sea buckthorn selection registered in Ukraine, characterized by high yield and stable fruit quality. It is distinguished by its resistance to environmental stress factors, making it attractive for commercial cultivation on areas from 1 to 10 hectares. The average yield is 24.5–27.2 tons per hectare, and the price of berry harvesting ranges from 100–150 UAH/kg.

Sea buckthorn is a dioecious plant: only female bushes bear fruit, while male bushes are needed for pollination. For optimal growth, sunny lighting and loose soil with good drainage are required; swampy and acidic areas (pH below 5.5) should be avoided. Typically, 1500–1700 seedlings are planted per hectare, with one male bush placed for every 8–12 females. Two-year-old seedlings are preferable to accelerate root system development.

The berries of the "Obriy" variety are rich in vitamins of groups B, A, and C, carotene, and microelements – iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel, vanadium, boron. Thanks to these properties, they are used in folk and traditional medicine: decoctions and infusions help with gout, rheumatism, burns, cuts, scars, eczema, and frostbite; oil is used as a preventive drug for the respiratory tract. In the food industry, berries and their juices are valued for their high nutritional value, and in cosmetology – for soothing and regenerating properties.

The "Obriy" variety is already gaining momentum in the Ukrainian market: average yield for 2019–2022 is confirmed by statistics, and berry prices range from 100–150 UAH/kg. Commercial use options include selling fresh and frozen berries, producing oil (up to 2000 UAH per 100 ml), leaf tea, and honey. With proper agronomic support, investment payback in cultivation can be achieved within 4–5 years, and significantly faster with processing.
