Description
Boldinsky sorghum-sudan grass hybrid is a mid- to late-season three-line variety created using the sugar sorghum variety Saratovskoe 3s as the female parent and the Sudan grass variety Tugai as the male parent. It features an open, drooping panicle with black coloration, dark green leaves, and a white midrib. The plant has an upright bush with strong branching, long stems, and leaves of medium length and width. Seeds are elliptical, light or reddish-brown, with a 1000-seed weight ranging from 19.3 to 22.2 grams. Seedling anthocyanin coloration can be weak to moderate, and panicle scales turn brown-black or brown upon maturity.
The hybrid is characterized by high yield: average dry matter yield in growing regions reaches 61.9-141.7 c/ha, exceeding standard averages. Maximum dry matter yield in the Ulyanovsk region was 118 c/ha. Green mass yield reaches 195 c/ha, with dry matter at 53 c/ha. The Boldinsky hybrid exhibits high lodging resistance and drought tolerance comparable to standards, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
It is recommended for cultivation in regions and republics 4 and 7, including the Middle Volga region. Due to its agronomic characteristics and adaptability, the Boldinsky hybrid is suitable for obtaining high yields of both green mass and dry matter, making it in demand for fodder purposes and other agricultural applications.
