In sorghum production, predictability is everything. «Cosmosol» by Pioneer s.a. has proven to be a reliable workhorse. It is a US-bred grain sorghum hybrid that doesn't demand excessive maintenance but delivers consistent yields. Its standout feature, which we appreciated by the second season, is the purity and quality of the grain.

Operating and Field Performance

• Sowing and Germination: The seeds are uniform and vigorous. This hybrid gets a strong start even in low-moisture soil conditions, which is crucial for our region. Compared to regional varieties, «Cosmosol» offers significantly better germination rates.
• Maintenance and Resilience: The white grain of «Cosmosol» attracts fewer birds during the ripening stage — a real benefit that helps protect the final yield. The stalk is robust with minimal lodging, which makes combining much easier. Plant height is well-suited for standard inter-row cultivation without crop damage.
• Harvesting: This is where the American genetics truly shine. The grain threshes cleanly; there is no need to push the combine with high drum RPMs to clear the panicles. Due to uniform maturation, the grain moisture levels remain manageable during harvest, which saves significant costs on artificial drying.

Crop maintenance is straightforward, focusing on standard protection measures. «Cosmosol» is adaptable to various soil types but performs best on fertile chernozems when optimal plant density is maintained. Regarding profitability, this is a low-cost crop as its need for intensive chemical inputs is considerably lower than that of corn. You get high-quality white grain that is highly sought after by processors, without breaking the bank on endless fungicide treatments.
